At HMC, we like to make sure what we do actually works. With that in mind, we took a look at our energy consumption from last Wednesday (July 23), when Green Mountain Power and Efficiency Vermont announced the hot and humid weather was expected to lead to peak demand from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., to see if our efforts to keep our electricity consumption in check actually worked.
SPOILER ALERT: It did.
We logged into our account online through the GMP Customer Portal to get a look at our usage over the two days prior (Monday and Tuesday last week) and Wednesday, peak demand day. The handful of easy steps we took, turning off overhead lights, raising the temperature on the thermostat a few degrees, and turning off unused electronics, certainly made a difference. And we were happy to help.
Next time around, we’re planning on doing more to help out our friends at Green Mountain Power, Efficiency Vermont, and our good pal Mother Nature.
