A large part of being a “creative” in advertising is the ability to look at something, or a group of some things, and see an insight or a truth that is not obvious or expected. This skill is not exclusive to this industry, and is a kind of repurposing or reinvention that can be found across the globe. Some of those clever accomplishments are grandiose, the type of solutions to problems that help a certain group of people or solve some kind of major issue. Others are much more simple and much less groundbreaking, although no less endearing.
Either way, a different approach or a different context for something familiar can create a wide range of reactions. In this case, the response is laughter. Witness the absolutely wonderful GIF animations of Ordinary Batman, a tumblr page set up by illustrator Sarah Johnson.
